  1. Vale

First and foremost, thank you you so much for this addon, which is going to solve a recurring problem of mine! I have read FAQs and instructions, I have set the options as desired, and I am eager to make it work properly but unfortunately the addon doesn’t respond as it should.

Issue #1: I have set future dates to have specific websites opened (later on in 2013 and in 2014; e.g. 2014/06/01) but they have been opening every day since I set them (“Open at startup” option disabled, no startup time set). I have the Italian version of the addon, could it be that I have to turn the date order around (DD/MM/YY)? You mentioned this issued in the FAQs but I couldn’t find the related post.

Issue #2: If I set a recurrent date in the future, e.g. 06/02 for every 2nd of June of each year and then I Ctrl+click on an end date such as (14/06/10) in order not to have it opened after that date, will the tab still open in 2015?

Thanks a lot for your assistance and for your work!

    Hi Vale,

#1. Here is an example of how to use the Open Websites on Specific Dates feature:
    https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/img/uploads/previews/full/68/68366.png?modified=1357201070
The first entry in the YY/MM/DD column has: 22
    – so it opens every month on the 22nd day at 9:00am
The second entry in the YY/MM/DD column has: 12/03/31
    – so it opens on the 31st March 2012 at 9:30 am

Just a couple of points to note:
    i) make sure the date is in the format YY/MM/DD (in Italian AA/MM/GG)
ii) make sure that you Do Not tick any of the days of the week boxes
iii) make sure that you Do Not tick the Startup and Do Not tick the Catchup boxes
iv) make sure that you do set a time

My Weekly Browsing Schedule is locale aware, so if you are using the Italian version it will be looking for AA/MM/GG format. If in doubt try reversing the order just in case.
It definitely should not be opening every single day.

#2. Once the End Date has been exceeded, then the tab will no longer open. You should also see a red line in the YY/MM/DD column next to the date, once it has been exceeded. (A green line means that it is still active).

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,
    Scott.

Nice addon but i think there is a bug: I have some pages scheduled to open daily at 07.00 with catchup feature enabled. I usually put my laptop to standby mode instead of shut down. Lets say i put it to standby mode at night and resume next day after 07.00. If my firefox was open during that, then on the resume even though it should open those pages it does not.

      Hi Nick,

Interesting question. I don’t actually use standby mode myself.
What Operating System Version are you using ?

Just to clarify your Catchup settings.
There are two places where you can set Catchup and they each behave slightly differently.
      1) the # Catchup column in the schedule table.
      2) the Options setting for Same Day Catchup (checkbox).
So you might like to try both of those settings to see if it resolves your problem.
There is some more information about Catchup here: https://myweeklybrowsingschedule.wordpress.com/faq/#3

There is also another Options setting called: When Firefox starts wait for (xx seconds) before startup websites open.
The default setting is 0 seconds, so try changing it to 10 seconds. This may have an impact when it comes out of standby mode.

Let me know if this helps as I am interested to find out more about standby mode.

      Regards, Scott.

    Hi Scott,
Thank you for your respond. I have XP Pro SP3, i used the # column Catchup.
The seconds delay makes no difference. With a first test, it seems that by changing the Same Day Catchup from the options corrects thinks up (maybe you have addon checking for # catchup only when firefox starts running?). I can think of one problem with this workaround: if in a standby mode do not open laptop for a couple of days (weekend etc) and i have a scheduled for those days the same day catchup will not catch it, am i right? Of course for daily schedules this is not of importance but i am thinking to add some schedules more sophisticated which i don’t want to miss.
    Best Regards,
    Nick

      Hi Nick,

      Thanks for your test results.

It seems the issue is with the computer coming out of standby and not picking up any # column Catchup websites.
I will have a look at the code over the next week to see how best to resolve it.

When I have a new version ready, I will make a post here to let you know.

      Regards, Scott.

    1. Scott Post author

      Hi Nick,

I have uploaded a new version for you to test.
      https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/my-weekly-browsing-schedule/versions/0.8.2

If Firefox is inactive for more than 5 minutes, it will assume it was previously in standby/sleep mode and therefore will check for the Catchup # Column websites. I recommend that you do not use the Same Day Catchup feature if you are using standby/sleep mode, just use the Catchup # Column by itself.

Let me know your test results.

      Regards, Scott.

      1. Nick

        Hi Scott,

OK thanks, i will try it and keep you updated. (just that i am kind of busy right now, i might not find the time to test it thoroughly in the next couple of days)

        Best Regards
        Nikos

      2. Scott Post author

        Hi Nikos,

There is no hurry to complete the test, please take your time 🙂
But please do download that version 0.8.2 quickly, because I am going to remove it tomorrow to make some further updates for Val.

Update: version 0.8.2 has already been approved.

        Regards, Scott.

      3. Nick

Hi Scott, addon works like a charm 🙂

Is there some performance effect from this change? As i told you i am busy these days and i also make heavy use of firefox so it is kind of slow because of that, but i did not have the time to check if the new version also contributes to that (most likely not since someone else would have complained about it). Just that if it does make firefox slower, it may have a larger interval and if in any case there is a noticeable performance effect i should vote to leave it with the work around you proposed (to miss a day catchup by having pc in standby mode for more than a day is quite rare for anyone)

        Best Regards
        Nick

      4. Scott Post author

        Hi Nick,

Thanks for your test result. I am glad it worked OK.
There is no change in Firefox performance.

        Regards, Scott.

  5. Val

    Hello,
I would like to ask the developer few question:
1.Is it possible to set times apart for website. For example if i have 20 website i would like them to be apart a minute,so instead of me doing it manualy for every one,the program to do it for me.
Instead of me having to do for every single page.I do about 350pages a day.
2.How can i save this shedule because i have couple of different web sites so i would like to keep then on separate shedule?
3.Can you please tell me if you know a program like yours but i need one more option inserted.I would like to put range of website (sites which have 1-200 ending so there are range)and to visit the entire range.Currently i have to add every page manually.
    Otherwise this a great progam.
    Thank you

    1. Scott Post author

      Hi Val,

      1. The easiest way to do this is to use the Import Schedules function (Show Options).
      a) click the last website in your schedule to highlight it (this sets the position of where the websites will be imported)
      b) change the Default Time to the time you want the first website to start, for example: 5:00 pm
      c) create a simple text file with each Website address on a separate line (if its the same website, then just cut & paste)
      d) click the Import Schedules button and choose the location of the simple text file you just created
      e) tick the day (or days) of the week you want to open the website
      f) select the New Tab Delay dropdown box – this is the time in between websites (at the moment the maximum is 30 seconds)
      g) click OK – then you should see that the websites have been added to the schedule all with the same time
When the time is reached, then 30 seconds later the first website is opened, then the next website is opened 30 seconds after that and so on
If that meets your needs then I could add some longer times, for example 60 seconds, 90 seconds, 120 seconds

      2. The schedules are saved in a file called: schedules_lks4472.txt
The location of the file is shown at the bottom of the Options and Preferences screen (under My Weekly Browsing Schedule)
So you can simply rename the existing schedules file to say: schedules_lks4472_old.txt
The My Weekly Browsing Schedule Add-on will always look for the file called: schedules_lks4472.txt
So just rename them as you need to

      3. I am not quite sure what you mean by different ending
Do you mean, say: www. testwebsite1.com www. testwebsite2.com www. testwebsite3.com
The easiest way to load these is to use the Import Schedules function as I described in your first question 1.

      Hope that helps

      Regards, Scott

  6. Val

    Dear Scott,
    Thank you for your replay,
Unfortunatelly on this version(0.80) this particular option doesnt seem to work.
Here is the detail of what i do:
    1.Open My weekly Shedule.
2.The page is blank i have not added any sites yet.
3.I click on show option,so the option menu opens.
4I click on import .then i get in red that 30 sites have been imported.
    This where the problems begins.
    I set the time for 9:30am,on friday,sat
In the preference options i dont change anything.I want to ask you what are the “tools” “right click” “icon” for?

IN the website option i have
    -in new window
    -new tab -reuse tab
    -alert on tab
    …..
    -Reload tab if already open
    New tab delay????/
Which option do i need to choose?
I set new tab,Reuse tab,but then the reload tab option is grey and i can choose that.
What i want is like you said to open the sites in sequence, but in same window(tab),not to open new tab.
So when it starts the shedule i want to open the first page on the list and in 45 seconds to reload the same tab.I hope you understand me.I can send you some snapshots if you want.

In the Tab “when firefox starts” i dont change anything
in the Tab “Close Window” i dont change anything
About the range website i ment for example:
    http://www.google.com/news/001
    http://www.google.com/news/002
    http://www.google.com/news/003 and so on.
Can you please add 45 and 60 seconds option to the delay.
    Thanks again

    1. Scott Post author

      Hi Val,

OK, So you want to Re-load tab if already open.
At present you can not do that with the New Tab Delay (it is disabled/grey), but let me look at what is required over the next few days to enable that function to work.
I will also look at adding the 45 second and 60 second for you.

      Regards, Scott.

    Hi Scott,
I forgot to ask you 2 things:
1.How to mark more than one link in the browser at the time.CTRL Shift doesnt work.I am asing is because when i add more links with later time, the shedule puts them on the top.
2.My second question is how to organize by time the shedule. When i click time tab on the top it doesnt sort them by time.
3.last thing i would like to know is i forgot to mark the websites for entire week and just did it for fri and sat.Is there a way to do it for all links or i have to do it for each link at the time.I have about 600 links i have to go through a day.
    Thank you

    1. Scott Post author

      Hi Val,

      1. You can only highlight one row in the schedule at a time.
If you want to insert a new schedule before a particular row (instead of at the top), then click to highlight that particular row first, then click the Add New or Add Current Page button and the new schedule will appear directly before (above) that particular row.
If you are using the right-click menu My Weekly Browsing … Add Current Page, then new rows will be added at the top automatically.

      2. There is no option to sort by time.

      3. You need to do this for all links.
If you have a lot of links, it might be quicker to import the schedules from a text file as we discussed earlier.

      4. Regarding the shutdown – this must be something to do with your computer settings.
Have a look at your Power Settings to see whether the computer is setup to go into standby/sleep/hibernation mode.

      Regards, Scott.

      Hi Val,

I have made the changes you requested.
For the New Tab Delay I have added 45, 60, 90 and 120 seconds – let me know if this is OK for you.

      Regards, Scott.

    1. Scott Post author

      Hi Val,

      I have uploaded a new version 0.8.4
      https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/my-weekly-browsing-schedule/versions/

You can now create a Repeat Group to simplify the repeating websites – see https://myweeklybrowsingschedule.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=304

You need to create an initial website row in the schedule at a time (8:57) just before the Repeat Group time (8:58) with the same website URL. The initial website row (at 8:57) will create the new tab, then the Reload tab if already open will reload that new tab at the interval set by the New Tab delay for the number of times the website appears in the Repeat Group. If you want to reload the same website a number of times then you can use the Import Schedules that we discussed earlier to help create the Repeat Group.

      Note:
      1) you can collapse the Repeat Group by clicking on the little square – box to the left of the Repeat Group name (the – will change to a +)
      2) make sure the website URL is exactly the same as displayed by Firefox (Firefox sometimes adds a trailing slash “/” to the URL)

      Regards, Scott

    1. Scott Post author

      Hi mark,

I assume you mean load the same website every hour ?
If so, then just add the same website to the schedule as many times as you like. The Import Schedules can be helpful for this – see my comments in reply to Val’s questions above.

      Regards, Scott.
